Mauerstetten is a municipality in the Swabian district Ostallgaeu.

Geography

Mauerstetten lies in the Allgäu region. There are the following districts: Mauerstetten, Frankenried, Hausen, and stone wood.

History

Mauerstetten belonged to the Empire pin Irsee. Since the Imperial Diet of 1803 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria.

During the period of Nazi tyranny Mauerstetten ( Stone Wood ) was location of the concentration camp " Riederloh II", a subcamp of the Dachau concentration camp. The detainees were working as forced laborers in the Kaufbeurer explosives factory Dynamit AG.

On September 4, 1944 922 Jewish prisoners arrived. Later again came to about 100 Jews. In the four months in which there was the camp, 472 prisoners have died under inhuman working conditions and the occurrence of epidemics. Their bodies were buried in a forest. Today there is a concentration camp cemetery with a memorial stone in memory of the victims.

Incorporations

On 1 May 1978, until then independent municipality Frankenried was incorporated.

2 March 2008 Armin Holderried was elected mayor.

The municipal tax revenue amounted to the equivalent of 779 k € in 1999, which amounted to the trade tax revenues ( net) equivalent to € 90k.

Description: Three red mountain in a silver blue wall with three battlements; those covered by a black pine, whose trunk rests a pile as excepted golden sword, which covers the three mountain with his grip.

Economy, agriculture and forestry

There were 1998 in the field of agriculture and forestry not, in manufacturing and 128 in trade and transport, no social insurance contributions at the workplace. In other areas, were employed to social security at the workplace of 111 people. Social insurance contributions at residence, there were a total of 789 in the manufacturing sector (as well as mining and quarrying and earth ) and in construction there was ever an operation. In addition, in 1999, there were 127 farms with an agricultural area of 899 ha, of which were hectares of arable land and 893 ha of permanent grassland.

Traffic

From 1922 there were in Mauerstetten a station on the railway line Kaufbeuren -Schongau. In 1972, the passenger and freight transport in 1977 was stopped and the track closed down.

Education

There are the following facilities (as of 1999):

  • Kindergartens: 100 kindergarten places with 85 children
  • Elementary schools: 1 with 7 teachers and 157 students

Gallery

The Grotto, Mauerstetten is one of the oldest in the Region.Bereits 1890, she was built on the east side of St.Vituskirche. In 1927 she moved the then minister at the west side of the cemetery. But they managed to bring out of the grinding mill of Irsee tuff. 2007, the cave was renovated.
