History

The area around the present town of Maumee was inhabited in prehistoric times. In the 18th century the area between the armed forces of France, Britain and the American independence movement and the Native Americans fought over since the seizure of the Maumee River meant the control of a major east-west transportation axis. With the battle of Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794, the fighting took its climax. After the end of British - American War in 1814 the fighting had ended. The area was henceforth under control of the United States.

1817 a field map has been created and released the place for settlement. 1827 predicted an editor of the Ohio Gazetteer the place that was at the time only a few shops and a hotel: if the projected Wabash and Erie Canal would connect at this point, there no doubt what thatthis would be important to town. ( Should the planned Wabash Erie Canal runs near this point, this place will no doubt develop into a major city. ) Although the completion of the canal accelerated the growth Maumees, the economic development of the faster growing neighbor city of Toledo was overshadowed. In 1952 Maumee received its town charter.
