Maung Aye

General Maung Aye ( born December 25, 1937 in Kon Balu, Sagaing Division, Burma) is an officer and politician in Myanmar ( formerly Burma ).

Maung Aye proposed after studying a at the Academy of Pyin U Lwin forces in (formerly Maymyo ), which he completed in 1959 with the degree of Bachelor of Science, an officer's career in the army.

He was assigned the rank of lieutenant-general to Rangoon and appointed Deputy Commander in Chief of the armed forces in 1993. In 1994 he took over since the takeover of Than Shwe vacant Office of the Deputy Chairman of the Military Junta, which occurred at that time as the State Council for the restoration of law and order ( SLORC ). Equipped with these features, it is by Generalissimo Than Shwe, the number two of the regime in Myanmar, which occurs under the name of State Peace and Development Council, without being the holder of a government office itself.

Maung Aye is considered as an opponent of longtime first secretary of the junta and former Prime Minister Khin Nyunt and Than Shwe as well as a hardliner who rejects any concessions to the democratic opposition. Unlike Than Shwe, who is supposed to cringe at the mention of her name, comparatively good contacts with opposition leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, however, are attributed to him.

Maung Aye to be sick for a long time. In 2003, he held on for the treatment of prostate cancer in Singapore. He is also known as a heavy drinker. He is married to Daw Mya Mya San
