Maurice Block

Maurice Block, dt Moritz block ( born February 18, 1816 in Berlin, † 1901 in Paris) was a French statistician and economist of German origin.

Life

Block comes from a Jewish family and spent many years of his childhood and youth in Paris. Later he studied history and political science at the Universities of Bonn and Giessen and graduated with a PhD from the University of Tübingen from.

Then went block to France, where he worked for some time as a teacher. 1844 he was appointed to the Ministry of Agriculture to Paris and in 1852 he moved to the Statistical Bureau. Ten years later, put block down from his position and devoted himself from that time only its own scientific interests.

1880 block was a member of the Institut de France; five years earlier, the Institute had already received his " Statistique de la France ".
