Maurice Delage

Maurice Delage ( born November 13, 1879 in Paris, † September 21, 1961 ) was a French composer and pianist.

Life

Delage was an employee of a shipping agency in Paris; later he worked in a fish processing plant in Boulogne -sur -Mer, Dépt. Pas -de -Calais. Under Secretary of War Louis Joseph André, he served some time in the French army.

When he shortly after his marriage to his wife Nelly the opera Pelléas et Mélisande by Claude Debussy heard he was of this music so much that he immediately learned then the cello - playing. In parallel, he took private lessons with Maurice Ravel, and in time became a very good friend of Ravel. Together with his wife he accompanied Ravel on his travels, but also took his own travels, which took him to India. Impressions of these things inspired Delage then also to his compositions.

Like his friend and role model Delage Ravel was also on the artistic group Les Apaches.
