Maurice Gourdault-Montagne

Maurice Gourdault -Montagne ( born November 16, 1953) is a French diplomat. After working as a French ambassador in Tokyo and London, he has since March 2011 Ambassador of the French Republic in Germany.

Training

Maurice Gourdault -Montagne studied political science at the Grande école Sciences Po ( Diplom ) and Law at the University of Paris II ( conclusion: Maîtrise en droit ). In addition, he learned the German language at the University of Paris IV, as well as Hindi and Urdu at the Institut national des langues et civilizations orientales.

Career

His diplomatic career began in 1979 in Asia and Pacific Department of the French Foreign Ministry. 1982 he was appointed First Secretary at the French Embassy in New Delhi. From 1984 he worked again in the Paris Foreign Ministry. Here he was until 1986 the Secretary-General and Special Representative then until 1988 the foreign minister for the area parliament and press consultant. From 1988 to 1991 Gourdault -Montagne worked in Bonn at the French Embassy as Counselor for Political Affairs and the German -French relations. It in turn was followed by various activities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as Deputy Head of Press, Information and Communication Division and as Deputy Head of Personal Advisers to Foreign Minister Alain Juppe. When he was appointed as Prime Minister of France in 1995, was Gourdault -Montagne head of his personal consulting staff. From 1998 to 2002, he was France's ambassador to Japan. Then Gourdault -Montagne worked as Foreign Policy Adviser of President Jacques Chirac and went in 2007 to London, where he worked as ambassador of France in the United Kingdom by early 2011. As the successor of Bernard de Faubournet de Mont Ferrand Maurice Gourdault -Montagne is since 4 March 2011 French Ambassador to Germany.

Awards

Maurice Gourdault -Montagne is an officer of the Legion of Honor and Knight of the Ordre National du Mérite. He was awarded with star the Federal Cross of Merit.
