Maurice Herriott

Maurice Herriott ( born October 8, 1939 in Great Wyrley, South Staffordshire ) is an English former athlete who in 1964 Olympic silver medalist in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Herriott, who started for the Sparkhill Harriers, won 1959-1967 eight British champion in 3000 -meter steeplechase, only 1960, he was not successful. At the European Championships in 1962, Herriott qualified fourth of its forward travel in 8:49,2 minutes for the final, but there could not compete due to injury. The British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1962 were held in late November in Perth, Australia. Here Herriott won in 8:45,0 minutes the silver medal behind the Australian Trevor Vincent. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 presented Herriott in advance with 8:33,0 minutes a new Olympic record, which was, however, undercut the very next flow of Adolfas Aleksejūnas from the Soviet Union. In the final Aleksiunas finished seventh, Herriott, however, increased its British record on 8:32,4 minutes and won the silver medal behind the Belgian Gaston Roelants.

1965 won Herriott in several countries fighting and ran eight times faster than the second best Brit this year. In August 1966 at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica, he ran in the final of 8:33,19 minutes, finishing in fourth place behind the New Zealander Peter Welsh, the Australian Kerry O'Brien and the Kenyans Benjamin Kogo, where O'Brien in second had only six tenths of a second ahead of Herriott. Just four weeks later was Herriott in the finals of the European Championships 1966 in 8:37,0 minutes Herriott finished eighth. At the end of his career took Herriott at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City in part, retired from there but in the flow.

At a height of 1.78 meters was Herriotts competition weight 67 kg.
