Maurice J. Sullivan

Maurice Joseph Sullivan ( born December 7, 1884 in San Rafael, California; † August 9, 1953 in Reno, Nevada ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

Maurice Sullivan attended the Sacred Heart College in San Francisco. During the First World War, he served as Adjutant General of Nevada state supreme commander of the military units. From 1922 to 1932 he served more then in the U.S. Army and rose to the Colonel. He also worked as a lawyer in Carson City.

He held the office as Lieutenant Governor of Nevada and the second- highest office of the state from 1915 to 1927 and again from 1939 to 1943. He was elected in 1943 as a representative of the 1st Congressional District of Nevada in the U.S. Congress. After two years he applied for the re- nomination of his party, but was defeated while Berkeley L. Bunker. Sullivan then worked until his death in 1953, again as a lawyer in Reno. He was buried in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
