Maurice Philippe

Maurice Philippe ( † 1989) was a British designer of racing cars and airplanes.

Philippe worked in the 1950s in the British aircraft industry and was involved in the design work of the Comet 4 for de Havilland. In the 1960s he came to Lotus and was together with Colin Chapman, the designer of some of the most important Lotus Formula One racing car. The Lotus 39, Lotus 43 and the turbine Lotus 56 came from this community as well as the Lotus 49 and Lotus 72, after six years at Parnelli Jones - Philippe had left Lotus in 1972 - in which he also for the construction of Parnelli VPJ4 was responsible, he came to Tyrrell in 1978.

In Tyrrell he became the new head designer and built the three Tyrrell Formula 1 cars 008, 009 and 010 Philippe died in 1989, just before his last creation, the USAC March 89CR had its first test drive.
