After a successful study of civil engineering and working for various companies in the Group and of his father he became president in 1994 the car manufacturer Sevel. In 2000, he and the company were indicted for smuggling spare parts to Uruguay. From 1995 to 2007 Macri was beside his entrepreneurship also president of the sports club Boca Juniors.

Early political activities

Early 2000s came Macri in politics. He founded in 2003 the party Compromisos para el Cambio and stood as a candidate for mayor of Buenos Aires. Although he got the most votes in the first ballot, he was defeated in the runoff by Aníbal Ibarra. In 2005 he joined forces with the guided by Ricardo López Murphy Party Recrear para el Crecimiento with Allianz Propuesta, Republican candidate for the elections to the House of Representatives for the District of Buenos Aires and won this for themselves.

Mayor of Buenos Aires

In 2007, he first had the intention to compete together in the presidential election with Jorge Sobisch, the conservative former governor of the province of Neuquen in a formula. However, when Sobischs image after a murder case in police repression took strong damage against a demonstration by teachers, Macri distanced himself from him and instead pursued the goal of a renewed bid for mayor in Buenos Aires. This time he was with 45.62 percent of the strongest candidate in the first round and beat the candidates of the FPV and the PJ, Daniel Filmus, in the runoff significantly.

In Macri's first term was the most important decision to set up the Policía Metropolitana de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, its own police division for Buenos Aires, on March 17, 2008. Prior to that security in the city of the Policía Federal ( Federal Police ) had been guaranteed. The insertion of these police delayed; only on 5 February 2010, she was able to take first tasks. Also the metro network was expanded somewhat and express bus, the Metrobús established.

From 2009 Macri began a partnership with the right, the Kirchner government dissident wing of the party of the PJ to extend its influence to other provinces. He allied himself before the parliamentary elections with conservative Peronist Francisco de Narváez and Felipe Solá and founded the electoral alliance Unión Pro. They won a moderate success, as she narrowly prevailed in the most important province of Buenos Aires against being beaten for the FPV as a top candidate Néstor Kirchner as the strongest. In the other provinces, with the exception of the City of Buenos Aires, Unión Pro but reached only a small proportion of votes or not approached.

2011 Macri was considering again to compete for the presidential election, but decided to attempt to achieve re-election as mayor of Buenos Aires. He was able to increase its profit by 2007, 47% still and so was the strongest candidate in the first round, again took Daniel Filmus second place. The run-off election in late July also ended with a clear victory Macris, who received 64.25 % of votes.
