Maurilio Fossati

Maurilio Fossati OSSGCN Cardinal ( born May 24, 1876 in Arona, Novara, Italy Province; † March 30, 1965 in Turin) was Archbishop of Turin.

Life

Maurilio Fossati resigned after his school days in the seminary of Novara and studied the subjects of philosophy and Catholic theology there. He received on 27 November 1898, the sacrament of Holy Orders. After three years as a parish pastor, he became personal secretary in 1901 the Archbishop of Genoa in the year. In 1911 he joined the Congregation of the Oblates of St. Charles and St. Gaudentius of Novara. From 1911 to 1914 he worked as a parish priest in the diocese of Novara. In the years 1914-1919 he participated in the First World War and military chaplains. From 1919 to 1924 he served as Superior Oblates in Varallo Sesio.

Pope Pius XI. Maurilio Fossati in 1924 appointed Bishop of Galtelli - Nuoro in Sardinia. He received his episcopal consecration on 27 April 1924, the then Archbishop of Turin, Cardinal Giuseppe Gamba.

1925 Fossati was additionally appointed Apostolic Administrator of Ogliastra. 1929 was the Pope, he assumed management of the Archdiocese of Sassari. In 1930 he appointed him Archbishop of Turin and took him in 1933 as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Marcello in the College of Cardinals to. Maurilio Fossati in 1939, 1958 and 1963 part of the conclave, in the years 1962 to 1965 he participated in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council.

Maurilio Fossati died on 30 March 1965 in Turin and was initially buried in the chapel of the Seminary of Rivoli in Turin. In 1977 his remains were transferred to the Consolata Shrine of Turin.
