Maury Yeston

Maury Yeston ( born October 23, 1945 in Jersey City, New Jersey) is an American musical composer, songwriter and author. He also teaches as a musicologist and has also worked as a science writer. Yeston studied at Yale University and at Clare College, Cambridge.

Yeston was known by the success of his Broadway productions Nine, Titanic - The Musical and the Grand Hotel. But even at off-Broadway remarkable pieces have been played by him. For the 100 - year celebration of Carnegie Hall in New York, he wrote in 1991 December Songs, a modern song cycle, based on Franz Schubert's Winterreise and was sung by Pia Douwes in German. From the concept album Goya - a life in song dates back to the become in the interpretation of Barbra Streisand became a hit song Til I loved You, also on the album interpretations of Plácido Domingo and Gloria Estefan heard.

In addition to his creative activity Yeston is president of various foundations such as the Kurt Weill Foundation.
