Mavis Staples
Mavis Staples (born 10 July 1939 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American blues and soul singer and Grammy winner.
Life and work
Staples is a daughter of Pops Staples, with whom she first appeared in the Gospel genre since 1951. First achievements came as a member of the Staple Singers, who became involved in the civil rights movement and still exist today. Since 1969 she has also started a solo career. They also worked with Prince.
Staples has appeared in films such as The Last Waltz, Wattstax, New York Undercover and in The Cosby Show.
