Mavrovo (village)

Mavrovo ( Macedonian Маврово; Albanian Mavrova / ë ) is a village in the municipality of Mavrovo and Rostusa in western Macedonia. It is also the headquarters of the municipality, which includes, in addition Mavrovo still 41 more villages, and lies on the same lake at about 1230 meters above the Adriatic. In Mavrovo is the famous ski resort Zare Lazarevski.

The village had 166 inhabitants according to the last census in 2002. 103 described themselves as ethnic Macedonians, Albanians and 60 as 3 as Serbs.

1850 Orthodox St. Nicholas Church was built. In 1953, however, was flooded by the reservoir and drained again until the 21st century.

Mavrovo is reached via winding roads of Gostivar, Debar and Kičevo ago. It lies on the surface of the national park of the same name.
