Mawddwy Railway

The Mawddwy Railway was a British railway company in Montgomeryshire in Wales.

History

To bind the slate quarrying to Dinas Mawddwy to the railway network, initiated and financed the landowner and entrepreneur Edmund Buckley to build a railway through the Dyfi Valley Dinas Mawddwy the Cambrian Railways in Cemmaes Road.

The Company received on 5 July 1865, the authorization for the construction of 10.9 km long track. The standard gauge line was opened on 1 October 1867. In the Hendre Ddu Tramway Aberangell was connected. Companies it was from building contractors entrepreneur Richard Francis. The transport volume from the slate mines was too small to ensure the maintenance of the route permanently. On April 17, 1901, therefore, had the people and on 8 April 1908, the freight can be set.

David Davies acquired the company and on the basis of a Light Railway Order, the line was built with support from the Cambrian Railways again. The reopening took place on 31 July 1911. Operation was carried out by the Cambrian Railways.

With the Railways Act 1921, the company came in 1923 to the Great Western Railway.
