Max Bolkart

Max Bolkart ( born July 29, 1932 in Oberstdorf ) is a former German ski jumper whose greatest success was winning the Four Hills Tournament in 1960.

At a young age he longed to go alpine ski racing. Because of his slight build but nothing came of it. 1947 Max Bolkart heard of that ski jumpers have been sought. Goaded by ambition and without fear of speed on the run, he expressed interest. He was taken and worked his way into the elite of ski jumping high. His big time were the 1950s and the first half of the 1960s.

Four times he managed to become German champions in ski jumping. 1956, 1957, 1958, and again in 1964 also at the Olympic Winter Games Bolkart was a serious candidate for top positions. In 1956 he finished fourth in Cortina d' Ampezzo. In Squaw Valley, he landed in 1960 to rank 6 in the results.

The highlight of his sporting career victory at the International Four Hills Tournament is true at Epiphany in 1960, when he won all jumping with the exception of Bischofshofen. He was the first West German champion in this sport competition. The audience was in the times of the Cold War very proud of the Oberstdorf. Had he still managed to interrupt the tour winning streak of the then dominant East German ski jumper Helmut Recknagel.

2002 Federal President Johannes Rau awarded him the Silver Laurel Leaf. Max Bolkart was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

Today, Max Bolkart involved in the family business hotel Landhaus Freiberg in Oberstdorf.
