Max Boyce
Maxwell Boyce, MBE ( born September 27, 1943 in Glynneath ) is a Welsh comedian, singer and former miner, the mid-1970 national celebrity in Britain gained.
Childhood and youth
Within a few days after his birth his father died during an explosion in the coal mine where he worked. At the age of 15 Boyce moved to his grandfather. Like his father before him, he spent his late teenage years in the mine before he took a factory job in his early 20s.
In the early 1970s he earned a degree as an engineer of the mining industry. during this time he began to write songs about the Miners Community in South Wales. He began about 1972, performing in folk clubs where he always began with a humorous element, here and there a few anecdotes about the mountain man life and particularly the national sport of Rugby Union once repented.
Musical career
Max had participated without success on the TV talent show Opportunity Knocks. Shortly thereafter, he took on 3 November 1973, his first album Live at Treorchy with EMI in Treorchy Rugby Club.
The songs on the album, particularly Hymns and Arias, have quickly become very popular with rugby fans and for many years the entertainer performed regularly on stage, on television and on the radio. He also took on more hit albums. His next album We All Had Doctors' Papers was published in 1975 and came to the first place of the UK album charts .. This recording has the peculiarity that it is the only comedy album that ever came into the UK album chart.
An early highlight of his career occurred simultaneously with the predominance of the Welsh national rugby teams in the Five Nations Championship during the 1970s. The songs and poems of this period were reflections of real life and the unfolding story.
Boyce's career suffered in the 1990s, a low point, but recovered again in 1999, when he took over the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup 1999 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Boyce was awarded the MBE in 1999.
