Max Emanuel Cenčić

Max Emanuel Cencic [ Cenčić ] ( born September 21, 1976 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia ), is a countertenor and Mezzosopranist.

Life and artistic work

As the son of the Zagreb conductors Maksimilijan Cenčić and an opera singer Max Emanuel Cencic grew up in a musical family. He was trained by his mother vocally very early. At the age of six years, he sang in a TV show the aria of the Queen of the Night from Mozart's Magic Flute. It was followed by engagements at the Opera of Zagreb and several evening concerts in the former Yugoslavia and in Spain.

From 1986-1992 was Cencic member and soloist with the Vienna Boys' Choir. During this time he participated in a CD recording of The Magic Flute as one of the three boys, which called him the conductor Sir Georg Solti as the best boy soprano, he had ever heard. Because of his training, he was able after the change of voice to maintain the soprano and pursue the Sopranisten-/Mezzosopranisten-Karriere. At the age of 17, he had already completed the 800 performances.

In collaboration with pianist Norman Shetler 1992, the artist began his solo career. He was in the following years successful recitals in many parts of Europe and in Japan. He has appeared for example in 1994 with 17 years at the Schubertiade Hohenems together with the mezzo- soprano Angelika Kirschschlager on and sang in the same year, accompanied by the orchestra of the Academy of London, Bach cantatas. Since 2001 he is singing as a countertenor.

Max Emanuel Cencic sings at all major opera houses around the world and award-winning CDs with music, among others, by Domenico Scarlatti, George Frideric Handel, Claudio Monteverdi and Antonio Vivaldi received. He regularly appears at prestigious festivals of baroque music and was heard for example in Schwetzingen, Rheinberg and Drottningholm and see. At the Vienna State Opera, he also sang a lot in Aribert Reimann Medea.

For his role of Nerone in the production of The Coronation of Poppea of the Basel theater, the artist of the magazine world of opera has been named the Young Singer of the Year 2003 and April 2008 by the Académie du Disque for best opera singers. In 2013 he was awarded the ECHO Klassik for Best Opera Recording of the Year ( Opera of 17-18. Century).
