Max Franz

Max Franz ( born September 1, 1989 in Klagenfurt) is an Austrian alpine skier. He is the cousin of former Skirennläufers Werner Franz and successful, especially in the speed disciplines Downhill and Super -G. Since 2012 he is a member of the national team of the Austrian Ski Federation ( Austrians ).

Biography

Max Franz goes for the SV Weißbriach and was included in the Austrian Ski Federation squad in 2006. He played his first FIS race in December 2004, the first podium finish followed in March 2009 in the giant slalom.

In the European Cup, he went for the first time in March 2006 at the start, the year after a femoral comminuted fracture put him out of action for 18 months. The first full season followed in 2008 /09. In only his third European Cup races he managed at the exit on the Patscherkofel in Innsbruck with his first podium in third place. In the following descent in Wengen on January 9, 2009, he celebrated his first victory, but withdrew during the journey with a dip a cruciate ligament sprain to. Franz would have been provided by the Austrian Ski instructors for a start in the World Cup downhill in Wengen, the legendary Lauberhorn race, in the following week, but two weeks was sidelined due to a knee injury. The end of January he managed second place in the downhill in Les Orres a successful comeback. Based on these results it was behind Patrick Küng second in the European Cup downhill standings and secured a Fixstartplatz in his special discipline for the upcoming World Cup season 2009/10.

In his first World Cup race, the departure of Lake Louise on November 28, 2009 Franz reached only the 59th place. Five days later, he retired at the downhill training in Beaver Creek a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, bringing the season was over for him. At the beginning of the season 2010/11 Franz was able to attend the race again. On January 30, 2011, he won his first World Cup points than 21 super combined in Chamonix. In March 2011, he was Austrian Champion in downhill for the first time. In the season 2011/12 Franz connection was to the world: On December 16, 2011, he drove in the Super- G in Val Gardena to fifth place and achieved his first top- 10 finish in the World Cup. He was also fifth on 4 March 2012 at the Super G in Kvitfjell. In the disciplines of downhill and Super Combined, he went twice each into the top 15 after the winter, he was inducted into the national team of the Austrian Ski Federation.

On November 24, 2012 Franz drove in the departure of Lake Louise to the second place and achieved his first podium in the World Cup. Seven days later he suffered in a fall in the super -G of Beaver Creek a severe concussion and a nasal bone fracture and abrasions on his face. He had six weeks pause and was on 19 January 2013 at the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen his comeback.
