Max Heinzer

Max Heinzer ( born August 7, 1987 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss fencers. He lives in Immensee and is a member of the Fencing Company of Basel and the national side.

Fencing career

His career began fechterische Max Heinzer as a fencer before, switching to the sword suggesting him Gabriel Nigon performance sport boss in the Swiss Fencing Federation. Since 2008, he is trained by Angelo Mazzoni and Gianni Muzio ( national coach ) as well as by Manfred Beckmann ( FG Basel). On 7 February 2010, he scored in Lisbon the first Swiss World Cup victory in epee fencing under head coach Mazzoni. Since then, five more World Cup victories have been added. On the FIE World Ranking seniors sword he currently ranks in 3rd place behind Rubén Limardo and Nikolai Novosjolov (October 2013).

At the Olympic Games in 2012 Heinzer failed in epee individual after the opening win against Paris Inostroza knockout round in the late Olympic champion Rubén Limardo. In February 2013 he took over after the World Cup victory in Legnano for the first time the lead in the world rankings, which he held for a total of eleven weeks in 2013. The first rank at the Grand Prix de Berne in 2013 was his third victory in this World Cup tournament in a row. At the European Championships in Zagreb won Heinzer gold in the team competition. At the World Championships in Budapest, he remained as the favorite in the individual and in a team, however, because of back problems, foot short of expectations.

Personal

Since 2007 Max Heinzer studying sports science at the University of Basel. The study he interrupted in 2010 to professionally focus on the fencing career. As a pastime, he runs the fish in his home region. In 2008 he took part in the elections to Mister Central Switzerland, but finished only fourth.
