Max Meyer-Olbersleben

Max Meyer- Olbersleben ( born April 5, 1850 in Olbersleben, † December 31, 1927 in Würzburg ) was a German composer and pianist.

Life

Meyer- Olbersleben studied with Carl Müller Hartung and Liszt at Weimar orchestra at school and Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, Franz Wüllner and Peter Cornelius at Munich Conservatory.

After graduating, he became a lecturer for piano and theory in Weimar. Later he was professor of counterpoint and composition at the Bavarian State Conservatory of Music in Würzburg, whose director he was from 1907 to 1920. Among his pupils were, among others, Adolf Sandberger, Heinrich Steinbeck, Bernard Homola and Marc Roland. In addition, he has conducted since 1879, the Würzburg Liedertafel. Since 1898 he has been a board member of the German Federal singer. In 1914 he received the title of court councilor. He was conductor of the Würzburg bishop.

Meyer- Olbersleben was known primarily as a composer of songs and choral works, along with some of his chamber music works are still played today.

His son is the composer Ernst Ludwig Meyer- Olbersleben.
