Max Planck Digital Library

The Max Planck Digital Library ( MPDL ) is a service facility of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science in the field of scientific information management. The object of the MPDL is to enable scientists MPG optimal access to scientific information to provide a sustainable infrastructure for scientific information management and to support the MPS in its Open Access policy.

Areas of activity

The core activities of MPDL lie in providing technical solutions and in ensuring and optimizing the access to scientific information for the scientists of the Max Planck Institute through the creation of an appropriate infrastructure for the storage of data, publication of research results and for the network-based scientific cooperation. The MPDL is also responsible for the development and operation of information systems and for strategic and structural development of the scientific information system in the MPG. The MPDL thus acts as a central point of contact and as a competence center for questions of scientific information management within the Max Planck Society.

Scientific Information Provision

In the Department of Scientific Information Provision all activities are bundled, which are connected with the licensing, administration and the provision of electronic information resources for scientific work (so-called primary care ). One of the key tasks include publishing or supplier contacts and contracts, information management and the management of electronic resources, the support and development of databases and access systems ( information retrieval ), and the promotion and support of the Open Access agenda of the Max Planck Society.

Research and Development

The R & D department designs and develops in cooperation with the Max Planck Institutes concepts and scenarios for e-science applications. The aim is to provide solutions for the management of research data and publications of scientists. Here the digital archive of the Max Planck Society is operated and developed. Other focal points are carried out together with FIZ Karlsruhe eSciDoc project ( development of infrastructure and subject-specific solutions to support the scholarly communication and the free access (Open Access) to research results ), as well as supported by the Heinz Nixdorf Foundation Living Reviews project (freely available electronic journals with review articles that are continuously updated by the authors ).
