Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law

Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law was a legal research center based in Munich, which was divided on 1 January 2011 in two institutions. Without changes in personnel and location of the research process will now continue from the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance and the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law.

History

The institute was founded in 1966 as the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law. Under the co- directorship of Eugen Ulmer and Friedrich -Karl Beier (1926-1997) and Gerhard Schricker has taken it in subsequent years varied influence on the development of law and gained high reputation. The focus was based on comparative legal analysis of participation in the European harmonization of the law of unfair competition, trademark law, design law and copyright law, the commentary of the German copyright and publishing law and comparative legal development of the law of the patenting of biotechnological inventions or exploring the border areas between patent law and other intellectual property rights.

In 2002 the Institute was renamed, and there was a new department for " Accounting and Tax " which will be set out to capture the right information to the capital market and the taxation of companies as part of the international economic and competition. In the antitrust field, the activities of the Institute have been widened. It changed its name now under the name Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law. 2009, the Institute for the Department of Finance has been extended.

2011, the Institute was divided into two institutes: the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance, and the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law.
