Max Planck Medal

The Max Planck medal is an award which is awarded for outstanding achievements in the field of theoretical physics since 1929 annually by the German Physical Society ( DPG). This award is considered the most important in this subject in Germany. It consists of a certificate and a gold medal with the portrait of Max Planck.

The procurement of the Planck Medal in 1943 was a problem, since the Berlin foundry was hit by a bomb. The Executive Board of the German Physical Society decided to first prepare the medals in a replacement metal and nachzuliefern later in gold.
