Max Toeppen

Max Pollux Toeppen ( born April 4, 1822 in Königsberg in East Prussia, † December 3, 1893 in Elbing ) was a German historian and high school teacher.

Toeppen had studied ancient languages ​​and history at the University of Königsberg. After the PhD. in 1843, he worked at various schools in East Prussia and Posen as a teacher. In 1847 he completed his habilitation at the University of Königsberg, and in 1854 director of the Progymnasium in Hohenstein East Prussia. In the years 1869-1882 he headed the school in Marienwerderstraße, 1882-1893, he stood in front of the school in Elbing. Toeppen dealt intensively with the history of Prussia, wrote several books and was co-editor of the Scriptores rerum Prussicarum, a five volumes (1861-1874) comprehensive collection of sources on Prussian history, and the further collection of source files of the Days of the Estates of Prussia under the rule of the Teutonic Knights, also five volumes ( 1878-1886 ).
