Maxime Monfort

Maxime Monfort ( born January 14, 1983 in Bastogne ) is a Belgian racing cyclist.

Monfort began his professional career in 2004 at the Belgian cycling team Landbouwkrediet - Colnago after he went there last year as a stagiaire. In the first year, he celebrated his first Tour success. He won the third stage of the Tour de Luxembourg and was first overall. From 2006 to 2008 he rode for the French Cofidis ProTeam, 2009/10 for the Columbia team. In his first appearance at the Vuelta a España 2007, he was 11th in the overall standings and missed the top ten so just barely. In 2008, he contested for the first time the Tour de France, which he finished on a 23 rank. In 2009 he was Belgian champion in the time trial.

In 2011, he was the team Leopard-Trek under contract. At the Tour de France this year, he mainly supported the Luxembourg brothers Andy and Fränk Schleck, who led the team as captains and the overall classification places 2 and 3 occupied. Despite his servitors he was still 29th in the overall standings. In the Vuelta a España Monfort was together with the Dane Jakob Fuglsang of Leopard-Trek captain and achieved the 6th rank his first top ten placement with one of the three Grand Tours. He was both the best driver of his team as well as the best Belgians in the overall standings. The team also won the team time trial to kick off. For the 2012 season the team merged with the American team RadioShack for Team RadioShack -Nissan. At the Tour de France, he was provided Fränk Schleck addition, Andreas Klöden, Haimar Zubeldia and Christopher Horner as a rider for the general classification. After he had in the meantime even located on the seventh, he lost to the 11th stage in the Alps a lot of time and ended the tour in 16th place, his best placing so far in the Tour de France. He was the third best rider of his team and the second best by Belgian Jurgen Van Den Broeck. In the Vuelta a España 2012, he led his team as a captain, but could not repeat his top ten ranking from the previous year and ended the tour in 16th

In the 2013 season Monfort stayed with Team RadioShack Leopard. He started the season with the Mediterranean tour in 2013, when he finished second in the time trial on Stage 2. On the 4th stage he conquered the yellow jersey of overall leader, but had it on the final 5th stage to the Swede Thomas Lövkvist leave and ended the tour in fourth place in the overall standings. At the Tour de France, he should first act as a helper for his captain Andy Schleck. Since Monfort but rendered the more consistent performance in the mountains, the team soon put on him as a driver for the overall standings. In the overall classification, he finished at the end of the tour in 14th place He was both the best Belgians as well as the best driver of his team.
