Maximilian, Hereditary Prince of Saxony

Prince Maximilian of Saxony, full name Maximilian Maria Joseph Anton Johann Baptist Johann Evangelista Ignaz Augustin Xaver Aloys Johann Nepomuk January Hermenegild Agnellus Paschalis of Saxony ( born April 13, 1759 in Dresden, † January 3, 1838 ibid ) was from 1827 to 1830 designated successor of the Kingdom of Saxony.

Life

Maximilian was the youngest son of the Saxon Elector Friedrich Christian and his wife Maria Antonia of Bavaria.

Since all older brothers Maximilian, both Prince Charles and Joseph of Saxony, which already died at a young age, as well as Elector Friedrich August III. and Crown Prince Anton, no viable male offspring testified, was Maximilian in 1796 second in line to the throne of the electorate and later the Kingdom of Saxony.

In the wake of the riots of 1830/31 Maximilian declared on September 13, 1830 his resignation to the throne in favor of his eldest son Frederick Augustus, who was also appointed as a co-regent of the aged king Anton.

After he was able to live to see his son in 1836 ascended the throne after the death of Anton and this gave him the Weesenstein Castle, Maximilian died about one and a half years later and was buried in the crypt of the Wettin Catholic Hofkirche in Dresden.
