Maximilian Levy

Maximilian Levy ( born June 26, 1987 in East Berlin ) is a German racing cyclist and specialist for short term events in track cycling. He became world champion three times so far and won three Olympic medals.

Maximilian Levy starts for RSC Cottbus, where he was coached until 2007 by the then national coach René Schmidt. By 2009 he drove for the team Brandenburg. In December 2009, signed Maximilian Levy ( the first German ) a contract with Cofidis UCI Track Cycling team. After the track team was disbanded by Cofidis the end of 2010, Levy joined the team ERDGAS.2012 Chemnitz.

Sporting career

Maximilian Levy since the age of 10 as an active cyclist and placed himself early in rail and road race on the front seats. In 2003 he won first podium at German Course Championships in the junior class. At the Junior World Championships in 2004 in Los Angeles, he won gold in the time trial and team sprint and bronze in the sprint. The following year he won gold in all three competitions in Vienna and in the sprint and in the 1000 -meter time trial at the Junior European Championships. At the World Championships he placed it on a new European record. There was also a title at the German Junior Championships and the elections to the German Junior Sportsman of the Year 2005. During the World Cup race 2006 in Moscow, he was the first European in qualifying 200 meter flying under the brand 10 seconds, a record that although six other riders was improved during the day again.

Levy's biggest success was winning the World Championship title in 2009 in the keirin and 2010 in the team sprint together with René Enders and Robert Förstemann and the Olympic bronze medal in the team sprint at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The UEC - track European Championships 2010, he crashed in the Keirin final and was out for four months with a broken collarbone after he had recently become European champion in the team sprint.

In spring 2011, Levy won together with René Enders and Stefan Nimke at the 2011 World Championships in Apeldoorn, the silver medal in the team sprint. After the French team the gold medal was revoked for violating the reporting requirements of the WADA by Grégory Baugé in January 2012 because it was officially classified as a doping offense, the gold medal went to the German trio.

At the World Championships 2012 in Melbourne Levy won the silver medal in the Keirin. In the team sprint, the German team was due to a faulty relegated ( = reset ). In the same year he won at the Olympics, the silver medal in the Keirin and together with Robert Förstemann and René Enders the bronze medal in the team sprint. In the Track World Championships in Minsk the following year he became world champion in the team sprint, together with Enders and Stefan Boetticher.

Honors

After the Olympic Games in 2012 Levy was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf. In 2013 he was voted Sportsman of the Year of Brandenburg.
