Maximilian of Lorch

Maximilianus of Celeia, Maximilian of Lorch Lauriacum or from or by Maximilian Pongau ( * unknown in Celje; † 284 ibid.) should according to tradition, from the 11-13. Century have given away his great legacy of the slave of his estate and his pilgrimage to Rome. There, Pope Sixtus II 257 sent him back to his home, there to proclaim his faith. He spent 20 years traveling bishop and the first Bishop of Lauriacum ( Lorch on the Enns ). During the persecution of Christians under the emperor Numerian he was beheaded.

Maximilian is considered as the second diocesan patron saint of the diocese of Passau. His relics are venerated in the cathedral there since 985.
