Maximilian Steiner

Maximilian Steiner ( born August 27, 1830 in Buda (Eng. stove ), Kingdom of Hungary, now Budapest, Hungary, † May 29, 1880 in Baden bei Wien, Lower Austria ) was an Austrian actor and theater director.

In the years 1869 to 1875 Steiner led together with the actress Marie Geistinger the Theater an der Wien. In this role, he won the composer Johann Strauss II for the theater and headed with him the classic phase of a Viennese operetta. On the debut Indigo and the 40 Thieves (1871 ) the big success was followed by The Bat (1874 ). As 1875 Geistinger took a long engagement at the theater in Leipzig, he managed the theater until 1880 on. ( † in February 1920 in Berlin as the owner of a theatrical agency born November 20, 1855 in Temesvár ) After his death his son Franz Steiner followed in this function.

The actor and theater director Gabor Steiner was also a son Maximilian Steiner. The composer Max Steiner was a son Gabor Steiner.
