Maximum transmission unit#Disruption

As Jabber (from English: " chatter " ) participants are referred to a network like Ethernet, which data packets longer than the allowable maximum transmission unit (MTU) to send. This corresponds to a faulty state and can lead to network problems.

The cause may be a defective or incorrectly configured network card, such as the activation of jumbo frames at one of the participating devices in the network. A Jabber can completely paralyze parts of a network, at least the collision domain, which is why some network switches have a Jabber Detection and those participants can take with Jabber on a specific time or even permanently from the network segment.
