Maxtor

Maxtor Corporation was a hard drive manufacturer, headquartered in Milpitas, California. 2005, approximately 13,500 people were employed worldwide.

The Maxtor Corporation was founded in 1982 and grew with the acquisition of the hard disk drive business of Quantum ( October 2000) and MMC Technology (September 2001) on one of the largest manufacturers of hard drives. Maxtor in 2004 achieved a turnover of 3.8 billion dollars.

In 2005, Maxtor was by revenue in fourth place ( according to Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi).

On 21 December 2005 the company was bought by an exchange of shares with a volume of about 1.9 billion U.S. dollars by former competitor Seagate. However, the Maxtor brand remained for the time being. Nevertheless, all of which were subsequently as Maxtor designated disks only umgelabelte Seagate models with corresponding " Maxtor Firmware", visible 21 to the model names STMxxxxxxA and eg Diamond Max Meanwhile, the Maxtor brand was discontinued, however, and the hard drive manufacturer Maxtor is thus not more existent.

2007, the company fell on by factory virus infected hard drives. Kaspersky announced in September the same year that the whole time current product range ( includes digital photo frames ) can be infected.
