- 44 BC: The comet C/-43 K1 ( Comet Caesar ) was discovered in China. In July of the same year it is visible in Rome and is regarded by the people as the deified manifestation of the soul of the murdered Gaius Julius Caesar and used by his adopted son Octavian, later Emperor Augustus, to theo political propaganda purposes.
