Mayes County, Oklahoma

Mayes County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pryor.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Oklahoma, is located in the north about 60 miles from Kansas and has an area of 1770 square kilometers, of which 71 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Craig County, Delaware County, Cherokee County, Wagoner County and Rogers County.

History

Mayes County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Cherokee country. It was named a leader of the Cherokee by Samuel H. Mayes.
