Maynooth ( Irish: Maigh Nuad; German: " level of Nuada ") is a town in County Kildare in the east of the Republic of Ireland.

Demographics and traffic

Maynooth is located in the north of Kildare, on the border with County Meath, 25 km west of Dublin. Its population was determined in Census 2011, 13,621 people; the high proportion of 26% of 15-24 year olds indicates that Maynooth is a university town. Maynooth belongs to the Archdiocese of Dublin.

Maynooth is located on the M4 and N4, which runs from Dublin via Mullingar and Longford to Sligo. It also lies on the intercity route of Iarnród Éireann from Dublin to Sligo. Until the 19th century it was restored by the Earls of Kildare, from 1766 Dukes of Leinster, multiple and extended. Edward FitzGerald, 7th Duke of Leinster, who lived until 1920 at Carton House. On the old campus is the built 1875-1905 Gothic College Chapel.
