Mayor Luis Jorge Fontana Department

The department Mayor Luis Jorge Fontana is located in the south of the province of Chaco in the north- western Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered on the north by the departments and Chacabuco O'Higgins, on the east by the departments of San Lorenzo and Tapenagá, to the south by the province of Santa Fe and the west by the departments Fray Justo Santa María de Oro and Dos de Abril.

The capital of the department of Mayor Luis Jorge Fontana Villa Ángela. It is located 182 km from the provincial capital Resistencia away.

Population

According to estimates by the INDEC, the population of the department increased from 53,550 inhabitants (2001) to 56 865 inhabitants in 2005.
