Mazda 717C
The Mazda 717C was a prototype racing car built for Mazdaspeed for use in the 24 - hour race at Le Mans in Group C Junior. It was the first racing car from Mazda since the end of GT racing activities with the RX -7 in 1982. The car had a 2- rotor Wankel engine, Mazda 13B type, which corresponded to the machine in the series model RX -7. Chassis and body were built by Mooncraft with the help of Mazda.
Two 717C were used in 1983 in the 24- hour race at Le Mans. They were the only two vehicles in the Group C Junior, who could finish the race to the end of this year. In the overall standings they finished 12th and the 18th Place.
The following year, the 727C replaced the 717C.
