Mbam-Djerem-Nationalpark

The Mbam - Djerem National Park is a national park in Cameroon, which extends over the three provinces of Adamawa, Centre, Est.

History

In March 1999, the forestry zone of Mban and Djerem was designated as a protected area by the Environment and Forestry Ministry decree 0373/D/MINEF/DAG. On 6 January 2000, the territory was expanded again with a loud decree 2000/005/PM. Finally, in 2000, was the largest Cameroonian National Park. This was announce officially in November 2000 by Ministerial 1391/MINEF/DFAP/SA/FB.

Geography

The Mbam - Djerem National Park is situated between the southern slopes of the Adamawa Plateau and the northern tip of a dense valley of the rainforest in the Congo Basin. To the east of the reserve is the road from Yoko after Tibati.

The park is part of the regional Guinea-Kongo/Sudan-Übergangszone.

The entire park covers an area of ​​approximately 4165 km ². The area lies between 600 to 900 meters above sea level.

Through the park two large currents to flow. Of these, the park is named. The Djerem River extends from north to south. Also, the 425 km long river Mbam makes its way from north to south. During the Djerem flows through the eastern part of the reserve, the Mbam is located in the western part of the park.

Biodiversity

Flora

The habitat of the National Park is multi-faceted. One finds in the park typical lowland rain forest, wooded landscape, forest and savannah moderate grass savannah. The terrain is rather flat and dry. From satellite images show that a large part of the plant is not older than 50 years.

Fauna

Among the primates are found at Djerem River, the Southern dwarf guenon ( Miopithecus talapoin ). Another primacy in the park is the chimpanzee. Other mammals that inhabit the park are leopard, forest elephant, the African Buffalo and the Bongo.

For ornithologists, the park is interesting. An inventory by BirdLife International found at least 365 different species of birds. Among them are the Lathamfrankolin ( Francolinus lathami ), the beads Rail ( Sarothrura pulchra ), the fox (Falco alopex ) and the chestnut Reads (Halcyon badia ) .. Endangered ring Star ( Grafisia torquata ) and the Bamendafeinsänger are ( Apalis bamendae ).

The Mbam is a habitat for fish such as Mbam - Killifish ( Aphyosemion dargei ), stripes - Killifish ( Aphyosemion bualanum ( lowland savanna form) ) and ( Aphyosemion bualanum (yellow) ).
