MBIA Inc. is a US-based financial company headquartered in Armonk New York. The company is listed on the S & P 500.

MBIA also provides various financial services, particularly insurance asset management. The company was founded in 1973 and is considered the world's largest bond insurers ( monoline insurer ).

In the wake of the stock market and real estate crisis MBIA has lost nearly 90 % of its market value from summer 2007 to January 2008. Reason here is that in addition to conventional bonds and commercial papers were assured of ABCP programs whose quality is doubted by many investors since the financial crisis in 2007.
