McCall is a resort in Valley County in the U.S. state of Idaho, which is located south of Payette Lake in the Payette National Forest.

History

Before the first settlement by Europeans lived in this area Tukuaduka the Shoshone and the Nez Perce. Beginning of the 18th century came the fur trader François Payette in the area. 60 years later, the first miners came in search of gold in the area. They called their settlement Lake City, the search was unsuccessful, however, so they moved on. McCall was built from 1889 to 1891 by Thomas McCall and his family. He bought a piece of land on Payette Lake and built thereon a house, a school, a hotel and a post office. Furthermore, he bought a sawmill from the Warren Dredging Company, which he later sold it to the Hoff & Brown Lumber Company.

Beginning of the 19th century became the tourism more importance: in 1902 another hotel, 1906, tent camping ( Sylvan Beach Resort) on Payette Lake and in 1907 opened a restaurant. With the opening of the Oregon Short Line (later the Idaho Northern and Pacific Railroad ) 1914 McCall tourism secured as an important source of income. 1917 McCall gained the status as the Village.

In 1943, the nation's only fire Springer - training camp was from the United States Forest Service established here in McCall. 1965 was placed on a peninsula of Ponderosa State Park under protection.

Traffic

McCall is located on Idaho State Highway 55, the Payette River Scenic Byway is called here. There is also south of the village the community airport McCall Municipal Airport.

Ski Resorts

In McCall, there are the three ski resorts Little Ski Hill, Brundage Mountain and Tamarack. The former used to be called Payette Lakes Ski Area, was established in 1937 as a second ski resort in Idaho after the Sun Valley for forest workers. Nowadays, in the field, a T-bar lift is operated, the height difference of the distances of 123 m from the highest, 1706 m high point.

The Brundage Mountain Ski Resort is located northwest of McCall and was opened in November 1961. Currently there are five chairlifts, two of which were built in the summer of 2007. The routes to overcome a height difference of 548 m from the highest, 2328 m high point.

The Tamarack ski resort was opened in December 2004 and has a height difference of about 823 m, the highest, 2335 m high point measured. It is located west of the Cascade Reservoir and was called up to the 1990s West Rock.
