McCarthy Road

The McCarthy Road is a 97 km long gravel road in the Valdez - Cordova Census Area, Alaska. It runs from the end of the Edgerton Highway at Chitina on the Copper River in an easterly direction until shortly before McCarthy in the valley of the Kennicott Glacier.

The road follows the rivers Chitina River and Nizina River as well as the track bed of the disused Copper River and Northwestern Railway. It is next to the Nabesna Road, however, is not one of two roads that lead into the Wrangell-St Elias National Park and part of the park. The McCarthy Road provides access to the abandoned copper mines at Kennicott.

At mile 17.4 (28 km) the Kuskulana River Bridge spans the canyon of Kuskulana River. The steel girder bridge was built in 1910 as a railroad bridge and is now used for road vehicles.
