McClain County, Oklahoma

McClain County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Purcell.

Geography

The County is located just south of the geographic center of Oklahoma and has an area of ​​1503 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cleveland County, Pottawatomie County, Pontotoc County, Garvin County and Grady County.

History

McClain County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Chickasaw country. It was named after Charles M. McClain, a member of the Constituent Assembly ( " Constitunional Convention " ) of Oklahoma.
