McCurtain County, Oklahoma

McCurtain County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Idabel.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme southeast of Oklahoma, on the east by Arkansas, on the south by Texas and has an area of ​​4924 square kilometers, of which 127 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Le Flore County, Polk County ( Arkansas), Sevier County ( Arkansas), Little River County ( Arkansas), Bowie County ( Texas), Red River County ( Texas), Choctaw County and Pushmataha County.

History

McCurtain County was formed on 16 July 1907 as the original County of Choctaw country. It was named after the family McCurtain of the Choctaw nation.
