McDonnell Douglas MD-12

The McDonnell Douglas MD -12 was an aircraft design study in the 1990s. You should up to 500 passengers a greater capacity than those in employment at McDonnell Douglas MD -11 have and are in competition with the Boeing 747-400. This claim should be achieved by equipping with four engines and two full passenger decks. Concrete plans were published in April 1992.

Similar concepts also pursued with the Airbus - but much larger - Airbus A3XX, which was realized as the Airbus A380, and Boeing with Boeing NLA study or the Boeing 747X. The production and development of the MD -12 was, however, already overshadowed early stage of financing problems. The plans were laid with the acquisition of McDonnell Douglas by Boeing in 1997 finally shelved. Despite an aggressive marketing up to this time no orders were carried out.
