McDuffie County, Georgia

The McDuffie County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), Thomson is named after J. Edgar Thomson, a railway official in Georgia.

Geography

The County is located in northeast Georgia, about 40 km off South Carolina and has an area of 690 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers of water surface are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lincoln County, Columbia County, Richmond County, Jefferson County, Warren County and Wilkes County.

History

McDuffie County was formed on 18 October 1870 as 132 County in Georgia from parts of Columbia County and Warren County. It was named for George McDuffie, a native of Georgia governor and senator from South Carolina.
