The McGhee Tyson Airport (IATA: TYS ICAO: KTYS ), located in Alcoa, is the only commercial airport near the town of Knoxville in Tennessee. Next to him there is a small airfield for the individual air traffic directly in Knoxville, called Downtown Knoxville Airport Iceland. It is named after a pilot McGhee Tyson, who did not return in the First World War from a patrol flight.

The northern part of the airport is used by the military in particular, among other things, by the National Guard ( 134te Air Refueling Group of the Tennessee Air National Guard ) and the regular armed forces ( Army Aviation Support Facility, and the 110th and 119th Tactical Control Squadrons and the 228ten Combat Communications Squadron ). On the edge is also located the air cargo area.

In the southern part of the terminal is scheduled flights as well as facilities for general aviation.
