McKinley-Monument

The McKinley Monument (English McKinley Monument ) is a 96 ft ( 29.3 m) high obelisk on the Niagara Square in Buffalo, New York in the United States. The location of the monument in front of Buffalo City Hall defines the center of the city.

The monument was commissioned by the New York State at the architectural firm Carrère and Hastings commissioned and inaugurated on September 6, 1907. It commemorates the 25th President of the United States William McKinley, who was on a visit to the Pan - American Exposition on September 6, 1901 mortally wounded by a shot.

The finished building, was consulted on a draft Daniel Burnham as a consulting architect, consists essentially of a marble obelisk, whose building material comes from Vermont and Italy. Surrounded him, made of Italian marble and 12 ft (3.7 m) long, designed by Alexander Phimister Proctor lions, each weighing 12 tons. Engraved at one point is the poem written by Carl Sandburg Slants at Buffalo, New York.
