McMinnville AVA

The McMinnville AVA is a wine -growing region in the U.S. state of Oregon. The modern viticulture began in this area around the mid- 1960s, the recognition as American Viticultural Area (AVA ) was carried out in 2005. Attached are other varieties, especially the early -ripening Pinot gris and Riesling. The protected designation of origin was established at the initiative of the winemaker Kevin Byrd of Youngberg Hill Vineyard.

Location

The area extends within the Willamette Valley in the northeast of the state.

The recognized vineyards of the area of ​​McMinnville AVA spread across the administrative area of Yamhill County between the cities of McMinnville and Sheridan. Unique feature of the region in terms of the Willamette Valley AVA is the sparser ground and its altitude 60-305 m.

Climate

The climate of the valley is mild all year round, mostly, during the summer months usually remain cold winters and warm, humid and dry.
