Meadville is a city in Franklin County, in the U.S. state of Mississippi, in the United States and is also the county seat. According to the official 2006 estimate, the number of inhabitants was 497, with a population density of 171.4 inhabitants per km ².
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the Meadville covers an area of 2.9 km ², which account for all of it land.
History
The name is derived from Meadville Cowles Meade, a political leader and public official in the 19th century. On May 2, 1964 Charles Eddie Moore and Henry Hezekiah Dee were kidnapped by members of the Ku Klux Klan while hitchhiking, tortured and locked in a trunk. The car was pushed to the two in Mississippi, where they both drowned. No one was ever convicted of the crime.
