Mean corpuscular volume
The Mean corpuscular volume (german mean corpuscular / cell volume, MCV) is the average cell size of the peripheral erythrocytes and is one of four values , which are used for the classification of anemias.
The normal range is between 80-98 fl ( = μm3 = 10-9 ul).
From megaloblastic anemia occurs when a vitamin B12 or folate deficiency. In hemolytic anemia, large and small cells can be present at the same time. When alcohol abuse can also occur macrocytosis without anemia.
